APPAM Communities Child and Family Policy
Friday, November 14, 3:30 to 4:30pm, Property: Hyatt Regency Seattle, Floor: 7th Floor, Room: 702 - ClearwaterSession Submission Type: APPAM Communities
Community Group Description
The Child and Family Policy research community explores how policies, programs, and systems shape the lives of children and the families who care for them. Core issues include child care, parental leave, family economic security, health and mental health services, and child welfare. This work draws from a wide range of disciplines—public policy, economics, sociology, education, public health, social work, and more—engaging researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and advocates across sectors.
We envision a session that begins with brief remarks from leading scholars in child and family policy, followed by a moderated Q&A and a structured networking activity to foster connections among attendees. Guiding conversations may include:
- What are the most pressing issues in child and family policy today?
- How are researchers using data to evaluate family-oriented policies and programs?
- What partnerships across disciplines or sectors can advance this work?
- What advice would you give to those entering the field?
Amidst uncertainty in research funding, data access, and career opportunities, this community group aims to help emerging scholars navigate the challenges of today through opportunities for connection, mentorship, and collaboration.
