BIPOC in Public Policy is a yearlong community group designed to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color who are engaged in public policy research, practice, teaching, advocacy, and related professional spaces. The group will provide a welcoming space for attendees who share an interest in advancing equity, representation, and inclusion within public policy institutions, research communities, and professional networks.
The proposed gathering will create opportunities for participants to connect, share experiences, and discuss both challenges and strategies for navigating the field. Planned discussion points include:
•Challenges faced by BIPOC researchers, students, practitioners, and professionals in public policy spaces.
•Barriers to inclusion, representation, mentorship, and professional advancement within the field.
•Strategies for building supportive networks, collaborations, and pathways for leadership among BIPOC members.
•Ways APPAM and other stakeholders can better engage, support, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the public policy community.
