In the "quest for legitimacy," what determines which interest group actors can gain the audience of the Executive? This research considers the relationship between interest group uses of informational influence and US foreign trade policy executive output. Specifically, it considers likelihood for approval of trade protectionist policy by a president under varying levels of steel interest group access for informational influence and observes presidential administrations from 1964-1992 in a quantitative time series analysis.
