Documentation Requirements and Open Access in Political Science Journals

Fri, August 31, 8:00 to 9:30am, Marriott, Salon H

Abstract

This article explores the incidence of open science in academic research in the field of Political Science. Open science´s objective is to shed light on information about data, research procedures, and results of academic work, thus making information accessible to reviewers and the general public. This practice is not yet prevalent across the social sciences although there is a consensus about the importance of replication in building or rejecting theory and knowledge. This article systematically collects and analyzes data on publishing requirements of the top journals in the field at this point, including pre-registration requirements, thus allowing for the identification of trends at the regional level. We also look into the statistics of withdrawn journal articles in the fields of Political Science and International Relations and compare this information with that of other social sciences.
