Partisanship and Gun Control in U.S. States

Abstract

This paper analyzes variation in firearms laws in the U.S. states. I find that, despite popular support for increased regulation of firearms, many states have reduced public restrictions on firearms over the last decade. A key reason for this policy shift has been the influence of gun rights organizations within the Republican party.
