Cycles of Conflict: Studying Peacebuilding and Transitional Justice Processes

Abstract

What divides and miscommunications within the peacebuilding community contribute to a lack of collaboration between local, national, and international actors? How do these divides hinder peacebuilding processes, such as social and economic initiatives, along with the implementation of transitional justice measures and dealing with violence during transition? This project attempts to address these questions, along with the tension between the concepts of the “global” versus the “local” in peacebuilding processes through an examination of the Colombian political context during the peace process. While the Colombian peace process that has been celebrated for bringing the longest lasting conflict in the world to an end, few realize how polarization regarding the peace process, both within the citizen population and the peacebuilding community, will impact its implementation.
