The election results of July 1st, 2018 in Mexico gave rise to important changes in Mexican politics. The strength of the presidential candidacy of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) not only opened a new chapter in the alternation in power, it also brought a new majority scenario. Triumphs of the new Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (MORENA) political movement-party in the legislative power at the federal level, as well as in local legislatures, governorships, and town halls that were elected that same year were some of the modifications. This research explores the significance of these political changes in regard to the reconfiguration of the distribution of power. As a hypothesis it will be proposed that these changes have multiple layers, and not always nor necessarily lead to improvements in the quality of democratic political representation.
