Meddling in Elections

Sat, August 31, 4:00 to 5:30pm, Hilton, Columbia 9

Session Submission Type: Full Paper Panel

Session Description

The papers in this panel study the various effects and aspects of a foreign policy tool that has become (in)famous since the Russian intervention in the 2016 U.S. elections for the populist Trump campaign: partisan electoral interventions. These are situations where foreign powers intervene in the elections of other countries, using various covert and overt methods, in an attempt to determine the identity of the winner of that election. The papers in this panel try to study various questions related to this understudied foreign policy tool using a variety of methodologies and data sources.
