Candidate Selection and Political Behavior in Africa

Thu, August 29, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hilton, Cardozo

Session Submission Type: Created Panel

Session Description

A democracy is only as good as its representatives. As multi-party elections have taken hold in sub-Saharan Africa, research is increasingly focused on the quality of candidates standing for office.
Drawing from original data in Kenya, South Africa, and Zambia, the papers on this panel examine who runs for office, the attitudes of those candidates, and the conditions under which voters support them.
