Session Description

The papers in this panel focus on the political origins, and the political consequences, of local-level variation in policies, identities, and resources. Two papers examine how these forms of local-level variation connect to citizen attitudes about centralization as well as to vote choice in national elections. One paper examines the connection between state-level election laws and municipal politics and outcomes in the domain of education policy. One paper examines how elections impact the distribution of resources across geographies.
