Session Description

Many countries in sub-Saharan Africa have been holding regular, competitive elections since the Third Wave of democratization swept the the sub-continent. This panel examines the extent to which democracy has consolidated in the face of crises, and the long-term effects of electoral competition on important outcomes such as women’s rights and social welfare.
