Session Submission Type: Created Panel
This panel investigates contemporary struggles in Russian society from the perspectives of everyday people, opposition leaders, social media opposition groups, and government policy. Two papers investigate what it means to be citizens, activists, and leaders of opposition movements in an authoritarian context. The other two papers focus on the ways in which struggles to control social media and information play out between government and opposition groups. The papers employ a diverse range of original data sources to better understand contemporary political dynamics in Russia.
