Given the current political landscape, academics and political pundits alike frequently hypothesize about the ramifications of increasing the top marginal tax rate on political behavior. Using a natural experiment from New Jersey, this paper studies the effect of state tax increases on the affluent's propensity to turnout and donate to local officeholders.
