Session Submission Type: Author meet critics
The book providing an opening rationale for the panel is Byron E. Shafer and Regina L. Wagner, THE LONG WAR OVER PARTY STRUCTURE: Democratic Representation and Policy Responsiveness in American Politics (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2019). Yet the idea behind the panel is not so much to focus on the book per se, but to use it as an introductory example of research aimed at addressing major aspects—by which we mean mainly major problems—in modern American politics.
To that end, the critics must be people who specialize in one or more of those problems/prospects. They would talk about recent research and research needs going forward, and they include: Morris Fiorina, Stanford University; Raymond LaRaja, University of Massachusetts; Frances Lee, Princeton University; Seth Masket, University of Denver; along with Byron Shafer, University of Wisconsin; and Regina Wagner, University of Alabama.
