Texas v. California: A History of their Struggle for the Future of America

Wed, September 9, 2:00 to 3:30pm MDT (2:00 to 3:30pm MDT), TBA

Session Submission Type: Author meet critics

Session Description

This author-meets-critics panel focuses on a book by Kenneth Miller, “Texas v. California: A History of their Struggle for the Future of America” (Oxford University Press, forthcoming), which argues that “As the nation has polarized, its two most populous states have taken charge of the opposing camps” and “advance sharply contrasting political and policy agendas and view themselves as competitors for control of the nation’s future.” The purpose of the book is to provide “a detailed account of this rivalry—its emergence, present state, and possible future.” Publication of this book offers an opportunity for panelists to assess these claims about Texas and California and also consider the broader implications for state politics and the U.S. federal system.
