Session Submission Type: Full Paper Panel
This panel brings together papers to uncover preferences over economic policies such as the exchange rate. Aytaç and Steinberg consider how voters react to rapid currency depreciation in Turkey and find strong links with job insecurity. Amri and Bouvet use original public opinion survey data in Indonesia's 2019 election to test the relationship between different economic policies of the government and the probability of voting for the incumbent. Goodhart investigates how preferences over the real exchange rate vary with demographic factors, and finds that younger populations prefer devaluation.
