How do institutions influence the location of foreign direct investment (FDI)? Do bilateral investment treaty violations affect parent firms’ decisions to divest their foreign affiliates? When it comes to making investment decisions, how do these institutions work? Yet, we can also think about BITS effects on politics. When does a state violate its obligations in bilateral investment treaties (BITs)? Is there a relationship between capital openness, BITs, and the risk of coups in developing countries? This session examines BITs from a variety of different angles.
