Session Submission Type: In-Person Full Paper Panel
This panel explores the dynamics of campaign finance in developing democracies around the world. How do politicians raise campaign funds in developing countries where public funding is limited? How does the source of campaign funds influence the ways that politicians link to voters or the types of policies pursued in office? Are regulations on campaign finance effective, or do they create their own distortions? The authors bring new data and perspectives from India, Africa, and Latin America to think through the common challenges and distinct modes of campaign finance cross-nationally.
