Session Submission Type: Virtual Created Panel
The importance of the Black vote to the Democratic Party cannot be understated. For years, Black Americans provide a consistent and stable voting bloc for the Democratic Party, which often masks variation in Black political attitudes. This panel explores the continued importance of the Black vote within the Democratic Party, especially in Georgia, while also teasing out gender differences in Black support for Democrats. As a result of this consistent voting bloc, there are also consistent efforts to depress voter turnout on every level of government, including local governments through traffic tickets. This panel also discusses how local governments utilize fines and fees to suppress voter turnout.
