This panel explores citizens’ engagement in a variety of civic groups, including volunteer, nonprofit, advocacy, and charity initiatives. The papers explore how this type of engagement is related to political polarization, political efficacy, a willingness of members to collaborate and compromise, and the ability of organizations to engage diverse community members. The studies consider the political and cultural contexts for engagement in civic groups.
