Session Submission Type: Created Panel
This panel focuses on the interconnections between political actors and processes at the national and EU levels. The panel will explore under what conditions national governments can influence the positions of discussion and bargaining in the Council of Ministers, and how the parties’ issue preferences in domestic debates can affect the unity of national delegations in the European Parliament. The dynamics of elite-mass linkages are also assessed by examining how party associations across borders can impact voters’ perceptions, and by investigating whether European integration shapes actual party convergence and voters’ perceptions of it.
