(iPoster) Durability of Governments in Parliamentary Democracies

Sat, September 13, 1:00 to 1:30pm PDT (1:00 to 1:30pm PDT), TBA

Abstract

Based on Maeda and Nishikawa’s (2006) finding that presidential and parliamentary systems exhibit distinct patterns in the durability of party control, this study focuses on parliamentary systems and analyzes the factors influencing how long a party or a coalition stays in power. Using the V-Dem dataset, various explanations--ranging from electoral systems to the largest opposition party’s ideological position--are empirically evaluated.
