The appointment of external actors (UN, EU or third country) is rarely debated with regards to what is most acceptable option among citizens in conflict-ridden societies. To address this gap in the conflict resolution literature, we introduce a conjoint survey experiment where we present various potential mediators proposed to be appointed to help resolve/manage a conflict focusing on proposed styles of intervention; country of origin as well as personal demographic characteristics and attitudes towards tract one or two diplomacy. We test this in public opinion survey in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and Cyprus using conjoint survey experiments. We explore hypotheses on country nationality, gender, inclusivity, and style of mediation aiming to offer new insights as to what works best in international mediation.
