Examining the Role of LLMs in Intelligence Education Programs

Abstract

As the curriculum for intelligence analysis education focuses on advancing the ability to think critically, write succinctly, and present information effectively, how will the large-language models that have become so prevalent in recent months impact this learning process? This paper reviews the status of large-language models, examines how these have been used by students, to what effect, and how faculty may best leverage the technology to advance learning opportunities for students. The research finds that while students have utilized LLMs, and will continue to do so, they are not yet a full substitute for their efforts and serve primarily as a research tool or to initiate research.
