This article researches the extent to which far-right movement parties have influenced foreign policy in Greece. Our study looks at the far-right movement parties Golden Dawn and LAOS on the long-lasting dispute over the naming of Northern Macedonia. We argue that far-right movement parties have the ability to influence the discourse of centre-right parties regarding foreign policy issues and link their degree of influence to the internal characteristics of far-right movement parties. Extremist far-right movement parties in opposition seem to be more influential on a centre-right party’s foreign policy discourse than populist far-right movement parties. Our research shows how far-right movement parties discursively and practically contribute to the production of state power in territorial forms. It contributes to the study of social movements, of the far right and of critical geopolitics, opening up future research avenues for the study of the contagion effects of far-right movement parties.
