About Annual Meeting
Hard times influence everyone, but the impact on young people, who are making decisions that affect their life trajectory, are especially profound. In her Presidential Address, Annette Lareau presents previously unpublished data from one of the families in her qualitative study Unequal Childhoods.
With this case, she highlights the institutional barriers which block the advancement of highly motivated young people as they manage the transition from childhood to young adulthood. This work, and other recent studies, underscores the crucial role cultural knowledge plays in helping young adults achieve economic success.
