Self-Rated Health and Recession: A Research Note on Macro and Individual Level Predictors

Abstract

In this research note we extend prior research on the relationship between economic change and self-rated health. We use a multi-country data set and variables measured at both the country and individual level. Using a multilevel ordinal logistic regression model, we find that economic growth reduces self-rated health and negative experiences with the recent global recession reduce self-rated health.
