The Political is Personal: Civically Engaging Introductory Sociology Students in their Own Communities

Abstract

This paper explores community engaged projects which serve as the capstone for two introductory sociology courses at an urban community college. These projects model different styles of civic engaged learning. Comparing traditional service learning to a newer model of student centered community engagement at a community college serves to show new possibilities for community engaged sociology.
