About Annual Meeting
In this presentation, Andy Clarno will provide an overview and initial analysis of brand new research on securitization in Palestine/Israel. The presentation will focus on the system of “security coordination” between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Shaped by the asymmetrical power relationship of the Israeli occupation and facilitated by the United States government, a complicated relationship has emerged over the last five years through which the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government coordinate their efforts to ensure stability and security in the West Bank. The presentation will dissect this relationship – marked by cooperation and contestation – and situate it within an analysis of the tensions that mark the post-Oslo period in Palestine/Israel. Finally, it will discuss these changes in relation to emergent forms of securitization in the global context.
