The Pros and Cons of Teaching Survey Research in a "Flipped Class Format"

Abstract

This paper assesses the efficacy of the "flipped classroom" model for an advanced undergraduate Survey Research class. Having taught survey research in a traditional format for 10 years, by flipping the classroom, competency at "doing" sociology is facilitated. Student success is measured through assessment of skills and responses to focus group questions. Students in a traditional version of the class are compared to those who experience the flipped version.
