This paper focuses on Haitian migration to Brazil as a case study of South-South migration. Specifically, we study an emergent migration circuit few scholars are currently studying, as most research on Haitians focuses on migration to the U.S., Canada, and France. We believe that Haitian migration shows a new pattern of South- South Migration, particularly to Brazil as it is becoming an economic power in Latin America and worldwide. As Brazil is a new receiving country, this new Incoming migration stream shows the ambiguity of the policies as some of them encourage settlement, while others deal with migrants as a temporary phenomenon. In addition, these ambiguities bring to the fore the migration policies of the countries where Haitians go through in their way to Brazil (i.e. Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia). We draw on a multi-method and multisite research conducted in 2013 to illustrate this case.
