Abstract

Hunting is a leisure activity primarily practiced by rural white men. We explore one subset of hunters, Christian hunters, to understand how hunters use Christianity to frame hunting. We conduct a discourse analysis of Christian hunting texts (books and websites) to understand how Christian hunters interpret hunting through the lens of Christianity. While Christian hunters use Biblical passages to justify and interpret their hunting, they also use hunting as a means of practicing Christianity (e.g., through reading devotionals, praying, and evangelizing while hunting).
