About Annual Meeting
Efforts to combat human trafficking have grown in the last 20 years, with NGOs working around the world to address the trade of people under conditions of force, fraud or deception. How have contemporary anti-trafficking activities developed globally? Competing approaches in global and transnational sociology -- world polity and “coercion” perspectives -- offer different explanations. This paper reports some preliminary findings of a study that is collecting and analyzing data about anti-trafficking efforts globally through a census of anti-trafficking NGOs. The collection of empirical data on anti-trafficking NGOs indicates a more complicated process than either one of the approaches suggest.
