Abstract

From graduate school, to job searching, to publishing, to achieving full professorship, we know little about transgender and gender nonconforming people’s experiences as they forge careers in sociology. This workshop will be focused on designing a research project to gather this information and rectify this gap in knowledge. This workshop is an open forum to gather ideas, both on the focus of the study and the design of a survey instrument. We welcome all who would like to contribute thoughts or expertise to participate. It is our goal that this research project would be able to accurately highlight the challenges faced by trans and gender nonconforming people in the discipline of sociology, with the aim that ASA, as an organization, take steps to address them.
