022 - Teaching Workshop. Constructing Written Assignments in Sociology that Build Student Skills

Abstract

Participants will engage in activities designed to improve written assignments in sociology courses and in activities that allow sharing of effective strategies already in use. The didactic focus will be on what is known empirically about good writing assignments versus the habits we’ve adopted. Specific themes range from “why are you even asking them to write a paper?” to different types of assignments for different purposes to strategies for effective and efficient evaluation.
