15. Student Organization Advisement

Abstract

Academic work is often thought of as a three-legged stool of teaching, research, and service. Among the three, service is commonly the most devalued and invisible, and among the types of service most often given short shrift is faculty advisement of student organizations (especially recreational student organizations). In this roundtable we will discuss experiences as faculty advisors, as well as the often overlooked potential/ importance of faculty advisement in regard to issues such as student success and retention.
