This paper will explore the role of institutional opportunities in differences on the college completion gap between underrepresented minority students and their counterparts using regression decomposition techniques. Linking structural interactionism and structural inequality together I provide a framework that illustrates the complex relationship between institutional opportunities, and the exercise of those opportunities by students. Curricular opportunities such as participation in learning communities, and extracurricular activities such as participation in athletics are both included in a model predicting degree attainment.
