Abstract

Class stratification in the US is often characterized in part by the social mobility into and out of particular strata. With the increase in educational availability for underprivileged groups, life chances and choices affecting future placement in the stratification system may change. This project examines stratification in the US using social background characteristics to explore educational homogamy and heterogamy as measures of marriage choice in the presence of educational mobility.
