Institutional and Organizational Innovation: A Case Study of Cornell NYC Tech Campus

Tue, August 25, 12:30 to 1:30pm, TBA

Abstract

In recent decades, there has been substantial growth in commercial activities at U.S. research one universities. The university institute and its ability to encourage and endorse innovative behavior; thus, has become a topic of tremendous interest. As a result, the emergence of an applied science campus, Cornell NYC Tech Campus, dedicated solely to the pursuit of commercialization and startup culture is theoretically and empirically important. The aim of this paper is to show that Cornell Tech is a unique example of institutional innovation – a blending of key existing elements resulting in new organizational design. While Cornell University, main campus, is a traditional research university focused on formal academic norms such as fundamental research, Cornell Tech directly engages the norms, rules, and practices of academia, business, and industry.
