About Annual Meeting
Women have considerably improved their presence in the labor market, nevertheless many inequalities that still limit their access to leadership positions in all economic sectors persist. In the tourism sector, women’s discrimination in access to these posts is given at both vertical (glass ceiling) and horizontal level (horizontal segregation), converging in both masculinization and stigmatization of certain tasks. The horizontal or occupational segregation becomes even more significant in the technological and innovation areas, since the discrimination that occurs in the tourism sector joins the technological gender gap that has a direct impact on women’s career development in technological activities. Consequently, the analysis of women’s careers in technological management positions and glass ceiling is essential to understand gender as a structural sociological variable.
Therefore, the objective of this article is to determine the weight of women in technology management positions in the Spanish tourism sector with a survey census. The results show the existence of a stigma and women`s clear minority in these ICT positions. Double gender gap occurs.
