About Annual Meeting
We study the construction of universities as organizational actors in a national higher education system characterized by the presence of a strong national state. First, we assess the extent to which Korean universities have become formal organization with rationality, hierarchy and identity (Brunsson and Sahlin-Andersson 2000). Then, we examine in multivariate analyses the factors associated with (1) the elaboration and changes in the rules on faculty performance evaluation, (2) the organizational expansion and differentiation of university central administration and (3) the inclusion of engagement in formal vision statements.
