Sun, August 23, 8:30 to 9:30am, TBA

Abstract

This paper explores whether general lower wages and job prospects for ethnic minorities in urban China are a result of systemic discrimination or whether it is due to significant personal characteristics such as education or family connections. Variation among different ethnic minority groups are also examined. The results of this examination shed significant light upon the structural and cultural burdens ethnic minorities in China face in the urban labor market.
