12. Effects of Technology for Students in the Digital Age

Abstract

Contemporary use of digital devices (e.g., laptops, smart phones) has generated concern among faculty about how in-class technology use may affect student performance. A multi-year project by an interdisciplinary research team, this study examines how the use of digital devices affects interactive behavior and learning outcomes. How should instructors handle the relationship between technologies designed to engage students (e.g., clickers) and those that can disengage?
