About Annual Meeting
Improving student writing skills and learning outcomes is an important challenge faced by Sociology faculty. In this article I present assessment data from 11 semesters of an introductory level Social Problems course with multiple interventions designed to improve student learning outcomes related to writing competence and the developing the sociological imagination. The results suggest that students benefit most from submitting multiple drafts for assignments and from working with writing tutors or a paired writing instructor on those drafts.
