Triangulation of Teachers’ Academic Perceptions and Expectations of Students by Race

Mon, August 24, 2:30 to 3:30pm, TBA

Abstract

Previous research has documented the important associations between teachers’ expectations and student’s academic outcomes. Scholars have also extensively examined the Black/White achievement gap. With the growing student population who are neither white nor black, it is important to consider how the diversifying student body impacts student/teacher relationships, teacher evaluations and ultimately, student outcomes. This study examines teachers’ academic perceptions and expectations of their students by race and explores how they vary by school composition and context.
