Abstract

The American Time Use Survey (ATUS) provides nationally representative estimates of how, where, and with whom Americans spend their time, and is the only federal survey providing data on the full range of nonmarket activities, including childcare, eldercare and volunteering. Data collected in 2014 were published in June 2015. All ATUS data files are available to the public for free from the Bureau of Labor Statistics website. Research using ATUS data has been conducted in a variety of fields, on a variety of topics. Some examples are: human capital investments in children, household divisions of labor, time use by socioeconomic status, and physical and emotional well-being.
