The role of norms and values in economic life constitutes an important focus of modern economic sociology, sometimes summarized as the theory of moral economy. Economic norms and ordinary norms may clash but sometimes they support one another. This goes for such different areas of the economy as food regimes, working life, health care, and the recent growth of the legal use of marijuana.
