Abstract

While education remains a great equalizer in the popular imagination, inequalities in both educational opportunities and the returns to education persist in a wide variety of social contexts. The papers in this session explore the relation between education and social inequality, using new methods to document the roles that schools, families, and broader social structures play in the reproduction of educational and social inequality.
