Session Submission Type: Paper Session
This session includes several papers that address shifts and expansions in particular institutional areas in tremendously novel ways and how these dynamics have major implications for stratification. Taken together, these papers highlight how higher education organizations operate together as an industry, and how transformations in that industry shape the patterns of opportunity in any given society. What is considered legitimate, what gets prioritized, which institutions increase in size and enrollments, and how education is delivered all have powerful impacts on the structure of opportunities for individuals and subgroups in the wider society.
