580 - Section on Teaching and Learning in Sociology Invited Session. Teaching Sexualities

Tue, August 25, 12:30 to 2:10pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Invited Session

Abstract

Given the theme of this year's meetings on Sexualities in the Social World, this invited session will explore issues in teaching sexualities in a variety of ways and at a range of institutions. Presenters will share information on successes and challenges in teaching sexualities to a range of students from community colleges to research universities. We will examine different class types, sizes, and levels of interest in sexualities studies and how best to teach the students we find in front of us. Issues around the connections and intersections of sexualities scholarship with the study of gender, race, social class, and other social inequalities will be addressed. We will also discuss best practices in the development of sexualities courses and the resistance they may or may not receive.
